Q: What is a Companion Pass?

Once you earn 110,000 points in a year, you get the Companion Pass with Southwest, which allows someone else to travel with you for the period of one year. Even though you will have to pay the taxes on their ticket, the companion pass is valid on both award and revenue tickets. Companion Pass is the benefit that lets you choose one person to fly free of airline charges with you every time you purchase or redeem points for a flight.

However, the companion pass can only be switched up to three times during the validity of the pass, which means that this allows you 4 people to use the pass. This is especially valuable because it applies to both paid and award tickets, meaning that you can redeem Rapid Rewards points for you and then bring your companion without using any more points

Q: What period of time can I have the Companion Pass for?

The Companion Pass is valid for the year you earn it and the entire following year. That means that you could get nearly two years of use out of it by meeting the requirements early this year, so it is advisable to reach the required points as soon as possible.
