Q: Why do I need to provide details about my housing status when applying for a credit card?
The credit card issuers often ask its future customers to provide details about whether they rent or own their house, and that question is used to help them assess your qualifications for the credit card that you are applying for and detect potential fraud. Your housing status may reflect your ability to repay balances according to terms.
Q: What is included in monthly housing payment?
Total monthly housing expenses include not only your monthly mortgage payment but also other housing-related expenses like property tax and homeowners insurance as well as some others. P-I-T-I, for short, refers to your mortgage payment principal and interest, taxes and homeowners insurance. The sum of a homeowner's monthly mortgage principal and interest payments, hazard insurance premiums, property taxes and monthly debt service such as credit cards, installment loans and other debts all affect the chances of getting the new credit card when applying for it. That is why it is always asked to provide this information when applying for a credit card.
