FAQs
Q: What is the security deposit used for?
Once you apply for the secured credit card, it is necessary to provide a security deposit between $200 -$2,500. The approved security deposit equals your credit limit, but does not earn any interest. Your security deposit will be tied up in a Collateral Holding Account for 18 months, after which the same amount of money will be returned to you. However, if you have not made at least the minimum payments every month since the opening of your account, the money might be charged from the deposit. Actually, security deposit is used to protect the credit card issuer from possible debt, since you are allowed to possess the credit card even though your credit score is not good.
Q: Who are the people that should apply for a secured credit card?
Secure credit cards are allowed to people who have had some credit trouble in the past and do not have a good credit score. The consequences of all these issues are the inability to get a new credit card due to the fact that banks and issuers usually demand a least fair credit score, so as to be able to apply for the card. So, for people with this kind of issues a secured credit card is a great option.
